"Sifting through choices is potentially problematic in that it can create the perception that the grass is always greener," said Toma."There can be more regret when they know there are other options," said Jonathan D'Angelo, doctoral candidate at University of Wisconsin-Madison.
"I decided to try it," says Priyanka, 23, who requested that her surname be withheld.
"The thrill of chatting with someone without knowing anything about them was new," she says.
But now, new dating websites are cropping up to take the guesswork out of pinning down political leanings.
One site, Trump specifically caters to fans of the divisive real estate billionaire.
"You can meet people who are similar to you like you never could before," D'Angelo said.
